St. John the Baptist Students Spread Cheer at Annual Carnival for Good Samaritan Hospital

WEST ISLIP, NY – There were over 70 student volunteers from St. John the Baptist DHS that danced, played and hosted a Carnival Party Day for children and their families who are part of the many services offered through Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. This annual SamariKids Day, a joint effort of Good Samaritan Hospital and St. John's, took place on March 10th at the SJB Cougar Café where games, prizes, music, popcorn and fun were provided all day. Students set up the space and staffed the many game booths and food tables provided by Good Samaritan Hospital. Some danced all day with the children and others painted the numerous smiling faces.

Teachers Mr. Joe Grasso, Ms. Linda Ciota and Ms. Mary Closson, moderators of the SJB Student Leadership Corps, coordinated the enthusiastic volunteers. According to Mr. Joseph Grasso, Moderator of the SJB Student Council, "The St. John's student response is inspirational. The students come here and give up a day to help set up and then get right to work once the children walk in..... the level of care is amazing and it's non-stop all day long." According to Amber Douglass and Sarah Doyle, Sophomore Level Executive Board Members "the day is awesome.”
