Academic Achievement
Share |

The role of any secondary institution is to provide young people with a solid academic background that will enable them to attend the collegiate institution of their choice. Throughout the four years of high school, students discover so much about themselves and their academic potential. While meeting state and national standards is important, we see education as more. In order for students to truly be successful, they must participate in the varied aspects of their education and utilize them as opportunities to influence our world. The promise of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is to allow those academic self-discoveries to lead each young person to a successful collegiate career.

We place significant academic demands upon every student, above all, we emphasize hard work, integrity and discipline, realizing that today’s students need to be academically prepared for the rigors of tomorrow’s university study.

We welcome all who strive for academic excellence to apply to St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School. Our mission must extend from the academically challenged to the academically gifted. For the academically gifted, we provide challenging Honors, Advanced Placement, college credit and Advanced Placement course. We are affiliated with St. John’s University, Molloy and New York Institute of Technology so students can earn 30 or more college credits - one year of college - before graduating from St. John’s. We also provide services and support for those who learn differently and want the St. John the Baptist experience. We offer remedial and extra help classes for those in need and provide resource room services – in conjunction with local public school districts – for those in need of differentiated learning.

As educators, we commit ourselves to be "teachers” in every sense of the word. As Catholic educators, this means that we must constantly adapt ourselves to each individual student and live lives worthy of Catholic school teachers.

Our goal is to allow each student to define his or her academic and personal goals with individual programming and scheduling of courses. In reaching these goals, it is our belief that every student who graduates from St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School will achieve success at the collegiate level.

We commit ourselves to this philosophy of education because we know it works. Over the past six years, over 99% of our graduates have gone on to college. St. John’s graduates have been accepted to and graduated from such prestigious schools and universities as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Carengie Melon, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Columbia, Notre Dame, Boston College, Emory, Johns Hopkins and all major military academies and more.
